Jardín de la Croix - 187 Steps To Cross The Universe

So these guys are back again, with four killer tracks. Really enjoyed the last release from these guys, and they still keep the prog feel and still seamlessly mix up the math and post rock, the only thing that has changed is they have actually managed to get even better. Up for free at the moment. 187 Steps To Cross The Universe

Purge Solenoid - Transtactile

This Californian trio are essentially some pretty psychedelic progressive rock that also incorporates a ton of math rock, and are basically, really really good. Scatty all over the place in a really good way. First full length from these, though they put out a ep last year. This is up name the price on bandcamp and really well worth checking out. Transtactile

Hero Of A Hundred Fights - Self Titled + A Four Way Stop

Been a while since I posted anything old ish, plus this guys rock and don't get shouted about enough. Posted their final record a while back, so might as well post the rest. The self titled was their first release, A Four Way Stop was a four way split they did with Insidious, Mangra and Tintoretto (probably sounding the best out of this split), who are, well were all sweet mathy post hardcore bands equally un shouted about enough also, so I've put the whole split up and probably should give them their own posts sometime. The Hero Of A Hundred Fights stuff on these records ain't as complete sounding as on The Remote, The Cold but still good and if you enjoyed that will probably like these also. The Waldos - Sans

Portland based four piece, bringing some really sweet math rock, come post rock that incorporates a lot. There is quite a dynamic range of quiet parts to totally notched up rock out sections, with some really neat switches, and they both sound equally at home. This was recorded live but honestly sounds really polished. Really good and up for name the price too. Sans

Elma - Self Titled

These guys are four piece from Sao Paulo, Brazil, I haven't posted much, if any post metal stuff.. because generally (not always) I can find it a bit boring. Fortunately these guys ain't, mainly because the tunes always keep pretty busy almost mathy at points, plus they mix in a fair few changes in there. Anyways check out these guys on the bandcamp, if you like the tunes they have them up on their band website for free download. Bandcamp, Elma website.

Jennifer Lo-Fi - Ao Vivo no Estúdio Trama

OK so I don't know how I let these pass me by for quite a time because they are awesome.. These are a Brazilian group, a six piece that play noisy, progressive math rock type stuff. They utilise extra instrumentation have a brilliant sense of composition employ some fantastic atonality, an underlay of Latin rhythms, have sweet female vocals and just generally own it. I wasted a fair amount of time not listening to these.. Really is so so good and to top that off they have this up for free! doesn't get much better. Ao Vivo no Estudio Trama

Weary Eyes - Ghostwritten Stories Part II

An instrumental four piece out of Moscow. These guys have a really solid mix going here, they manage to take the sense of building and space from post rock, mix that up with the complexity of math rock, then take a healthy slice of energy in the form of elements of post hardcore. Pretty non stop. Was pretty much an instant like for me.. If you go over to their bandcamp you should also check out the first ep from these too (Pt I), they are both up for name the price so affordable as well as good. Ghostwritten Stories Part II

Nairobi - EP 2

Some pretty catchy as math pop here, combining afrobeat influences, plus the odd well placed synth pieces add to the sound, all topped off with some pretty neat vocals. I think these actually go under the banner of mafrobeat. Anways these guys are a four piece and it's good to hear some more math coming out of my home town, Oxford. Second ep from these lot, first one also well worth a check while your on it. EP 2

Zeus! - Opera

Not really quite sure how to describe these, but what comes to mind is something like a mathy/noise rock two piece like lightning bolt meets the sound of the locust.. Pretty much fricking sweet really. As you may well have guessed these are a two piece, they come from Italy. This ain't up for free but they are only asking for peanuts. So good. Opera

Diorama - "_ _ _ _ _"

From Lima, Peru this five piece bring what's mostly post rock, but combines some math rock elements as well as progy bits. For something with it's base in post rock these ain’t boring.. The whole record has a descent flow to it. This is the second outing from these guys and they have it out for full on free, if you check out their bandcamp you will also find their previous effort up there for free also. "_ _ _ _ _"

Sleep Like Trees - Learn Around

Math rock two piece from Arizona. Instrumental, not the super frenetic style of math rock that a lot of two pieces do, though still be quick paced with well thought out interesting tunes. Well worth checking out their other release too. No physical or digital available as yet but hopefully soon. Learn Around.

Oranges - Monkey Buisness

These guys are a four piece from Las Vegas, I think they put themselves in the progressive camp, which I'd go with, although to me very much mathy post hardcore kinda tfot ish, with emo types vocals.. I'd say at this point they don't have the song structures quite nailed, but there really is a ton of interesting shit going on. I very much hope they keep moving with the progressive elements, seen too many bands of this type go the more pop route n go poo. I'm sure I've made this sound less good than it is. They have this up on bandcamp for a small fee, but if you follow the links the also have a split they did with Alaska, which is all name the price and good tunes. Monkey Business.

Microcause - Producing The Universe

Spanish trio from Madrid, occupying the space between post rock and math rock, though more to the post rock side of the line. First record from these guys apart from one track last year and a pretty solid first outing, only thing I'd say is I wish they made more of the changes/had more of them? but hey pretty sweet first outing still. Out on the old bandcamp name the price. Producing The Universe.

New Lands - I Wonder If It Remembers Me

New release from these guys (well last month..) enjoyed the last release from these guys (post here) and am enjoying this one too. In case you didn't catch the last one, these are a four piece out of New Orleans that bring a mix of punk and math rock and like their last release they have it up on bandcamp totally free. I Wonder If It Remembers Me.
